RESOLUTION
Compensating
Mrs. Claudia Barnes; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
on March 11, 2005, Fulton County Superior Court Judge Rowland W. Barnes was
tragically shot and killed in the Fulton County courthouse by an escaped inmate;
and
WHEREAS,
Judge Barnes is survived by his wife, Mrs. Claudia Barnes; and
WHEREAS,
at the time of his death Judge Barnes was engaged in the performance of his
duties as a judge of the superior courts of the State of Georgia and his tragic
murder occurred through no fault or negligence on the part of Judge Barnes or
his wife.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the Department
of Administrative Services is authorized and directed to pay the sum of
$75,000.00 to Mrs. Claudia Barnes as compensation as provided above. Said sum
shall be paid from funds appropriated to or available to the Department of
Administrative Services and shall be in full and complete satisfaction of all
claims against the State of Georgia arising out of the death of Judge Barnes,
but neither this resolution nor acceptance of the compensation provided for in
this resolution shall affect any claim other than a claim against the State of
Georgia.
