A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Rita Samuels for her many years of effort to improve the quality of life for Georgia citizens; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Rita Samuels is a distinguished Georgian and an outstanding citizen of this state, and has dedicated her tremendous knowledge and experience to assisting others and has significantly improved the quality of life for her fellow citizens; and

WHEREAS, she has demonstrated her dedication to her community and this state through her enduring service on many committees and boards, including service as a founding member of the Georgia Commission on Women and the Georgia Coalition of Black Women, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, the Georgia Commission on Women was created by the General Assembly in 1992 to promote, encourage, and advise state, local, and community womeńs professional, business, and civic organizations; to analyze the impact of the laws of the state on women; and to collect and disseminate information on the status of women in Georgia; and

WHEREAS, the Georgia Coalition of Black Women, Inc., a womeńs advocacy training and development organization which provides services to disadvantaged women and children and has encouraged womeńs participation in government and business; and

WHEREAS, Rita Samuels is revered as an ardent and effective civil rights activist and a champion of women's rights as evidenced by her repeated nomination as one of the 50 most influential African American women in Georgia; and

WHEREAS, she exemplifies the characteristics of a true leader and has been a devoted advocate for positive change, making the State of Georgia a better place to live.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join in recognizing and commending Rita Samuels for her monumental record of achievement and advocacy on behalf of women and minorities and for her many years of service which have greatly improved the quality of life for all citizens in Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Rita Samuels.
