RESOLUTION
Remembering
and honoring the life of Mrs. Nellie G. Butler; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
during her lifetime, Mrs. Nellie G. Butler touched countless lives with her
compassion, faith, and kind and loving spirit; and
WHEREAS,
she was born on April 4, 1896, in Haymarket, Virginia, to Archie and Charlotte
Burke and attended school in Gainesville, Virginia, and in Washington, D.C.;
and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Butler enjoyed many years of loving marriage to Asbury Butler, during which
the couple was blessed with ten children; and
WHEREAS,
a vibrant and intelligent lady, she established a school in her mother's home
where she taught two of her sons and four of her cousins and was often engaged
in hobbies such as canning, sewing, and piecing quilts; and
WHEREAS,
she worked as a cook at the Foxcroft School in Middleburg, Virginia, and as a
domestic in Fall Church and Arlington, Virginia, earning the respect of her
employers with her skill and professionalism; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Butler's Christian faith was at the very center of her life, beginning with
her baptism at age 11 at Rehoboth Baptist Church in Washington, D.C.;
and
WHEREAS,
she was one of the most respected and beloved members of Olive Branch Baptist
Church in Haymarket, Virginia, where she served as church clerk and Sunday
School superintendent; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Butler passed away on March 26, 1995, leaving an inspiring legacy of
Christian devotion and virtue for generations to come.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join to remember and honor the life of Mrs. Nellie G. Butler and
express their most heartfelt condolences to her family and friends.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of
Mrs. Nellie G. Butler.
