A RESOLUTION

Commending Deputy Sheriff Steven Jones; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Deputy Sheriff Steven Jones has been named the 2005 D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) Officer of the Year; and

WHEREAS, he earned an Associate of Science degree in criminal justice and an Associate of Arts degree in business from Thomas College and a bachelor of business administration degree in marketing from Valdosta State University; and

WHEREAS, he has served with distinction as a member of the Thomas County Sheriff's Department since 1993, where he was instrumental in securing over $200,000.00 in grant funds to update departmental equipment and advance department technology; and

WHEREAS, Deputy Jones has taught and graduated 14 D.A.R.E. elementary groups, has coordinated neighborhood watch groups, conducted alcohol and drug awareness programs for five years, earned accreditation as a child safety seat technician, and has orchestrated a school safety plan for the Thomas County School System; and

WHEREAS, his commitment to educating young people of this state on important issues have made him a vital contributor to his community and this state.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join in commending Deputy Sheriff Steven Jones on his many accomplishments including being named 2005 D.A.R.E. Officer of the Year.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Deputy Sheriff Steven Jones.
