RESOLUTION
Urging
the United States Secretary of the Army to award the Presidential Unit Citation
to the Georgia National Guard 48th Infantry Brigade; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
members of the Georgia National 48th Infantry Brigade have been engaged in
combat operations in some of the most dangerous places in Iraq; and
WHEREAS,
the 48th Brigade has distinguished itself by meritorious action in combat;
and
WHEREAS,
the Presidential Unit Citation is awarded to a unit of the Armed Forces of the
United States for extraordinary heroism in action against an armed enemy;
and
WHEREAS,
to qualify for a Presidential Unit Citation, the unit must have displayed such
gallantry, determination, and esprit de corps in accomplishing its mission under
extremely difficult and hazardous conditions as to set it apart from and above
other units participating in the same campaign; and
WHEREAS,
the 48th Brigade has so distinguished itself by its conduct in Iraq;
and
WHEREAS,
approval for awarding the Presidential Unit Citation lies with the President of
the United States, who in turn has delegated such authority to the service
secretaries; and
WHEREAS,
the 48th Brigade combat team elements include the Headquarters BCT, 648th
Engineer Battalion, 2-130th Battalion, 2-121st Infantry Battalion, 148th Forward
Support Battalion, 1-118th Field Artillery, and 108th Armor
Battalion.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
the body commend the Georgia National Guard 48th Infantry Brigade and urge the
United States Secretary of the Army to award this deserving combat unit with the
Presidential Unit Citation.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to the United States Secretary of the Army and the Georgia National Guard 48th Infantry Brigade.
