RESOLUTION
Commending
Ms. Sherryl Nelson and her career as the director of Clayton State University's
Spivey Hall; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Ms. Nelson has dutifully dedicated herself as the founder and director of
Clayton State University's Spivey Hall in Morrow, Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
under Nelson's leadership, the Spivey Hall concert season of internationally
celebrated classical, jazz, and world concerts has become one of the most
renowned in North America; and
WHEREAS,
the Spivey series has built nationwide audiences through its unprecedented
number of broadcasts on National Public Radio's "Performance Today";
and
WHEREAS,
Nelson's work with international artists has earned her recognition as the
Clayton County Chamber of Commerce 2002 International Business Person of the
Year, as well as the 2003 German-American Friendship Award bestowed upon her by
the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany; and
WHEREAS,
Ms. Nelson was honored in 2005 by the French Republic with the title Knight of
the Order of Arts and Letters.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize Ms. Sherryl Nelson's contribution to the arts in
Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ms. Sherryl
Nelson.
