A RESOLUTION

Recognizing Coach Melvin T. Kinslow on his 70th birthday; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, on February 9, 2005, Coach Melvin T. Kinslow is celebrating his 70th birthday; and

WHEREAS, he is widely known and respected as an outstanding athlete, coach, and educator and for the exemplary manner in which he serves as a role model for the young people of this state; and

WHEREAS, he is a graduate of Americus High School, Georgia Southwestern University, Mercer University, and Auburn University; was a phenomenal member of the basketball and baseball teams at Georgia Southwestern University and Mercer University; and has been inducted into the Georgia Southwestern University Athletic Hall of Fame, the Mercer University Athletic Hall of Fame, and the Georgia State High School Baseball Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, while serving as a coach at Americus High School, Southland Academy, and Deerfield Windsor School, his teams won numerous state and regional baseball, basketball, golf, and football championships; and

WHEREAS, he served with distinction as principal of Cherokee Elementary School from 1969 to 1971 and as headmaster of Southland Academy from 1971 to 1996, is a member of the Kiwanis Club of Americus, and is a member of Central Baptist Church of Americus; and

WHEREAS, he is the devoted husband of Mrs. Wilma Gardner Kinslow and they are the parents of two outstanding children, Kelley Kinslow Hendrickson and Ty Kinslow, and the proud grandparents of five very special grandchildren, Kyle, Katie, Clay, Banks, and Kathleen.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the members of this body recognize and commend Coach Melvin T. Kinslow and extend their best wishes on the occasion of his 70th birthday.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Coach Melvin T. Kinslow.
