RESOLUTION
Congratulating
Mary B. Smart on the occasion of her 101st birthday; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mary B. Smart was born February 2, 1904, to two loving parents, Richmond and
Priscilla Nelson in White Oak, Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Smart has been a devoted lifetime member of Browns Chapel A.M.E. Church
where she sings in the choir and is Mother of the Church and where she attended
school in her youth; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Smart fondly remembers playing baseball and fishing with her friends as she
grew into a young lady who worked hard at her first job as a cook in White Oak
in the 1920s, earning 50 cents a day, which went much further in those days;
and
WHEREAS,
she has watched the world change dramatically over the course of her lifetime
and has contributed to its progress by her own hard work, great kindness, and
good citizenship; and
WHEREAS,
she has imparted to generations of descendants, including her four lovely
children, 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and eight
great-great-grandchildren, her 101 years of accumulated knowledge and wisdom and
has taught them the values that have served her well; and
WHEREAS,
by the example she has made of her life, Mrs. Smart makes this world a better
place in which to live, and it is only fitting and proper that she be
appropriately recognized during this very special and memorable time of her
life.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join in heartily congratulating Mrs. Mary B. Smart on the occasion of
her 101st birthday celebration and extend to her their most sincere best wishes
for her continued health and happiness.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mrs. Mary B.
Smart.
