BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
AN ACT
To
amend Article 11 of Chapter 6 of Title 40 of the Official Code of Georgia
Annotated, relating to miscellaneous provisions of rules of the road, so as to
change certain provisions relating to drivers to exercise due care and allowance
for proper use of radios and mobile telephones; to prohibit operation of motor
vehicles by persons less than 17 years of age while using mobile telephones or
similar communications devices; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other
purposes.
BE
IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
SECTION
1.
Article
11 of Chapter 6 of Title 40 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating
to miscellaneous provisions of rules of the road, is amended by designating the
current provisions of Code Section 40-6-241, relating to requirement for drivers
to exercise due care and allowance for proper use of radios and mobile
telephones, as subsection (a) thereof and adding a new subsection (b) to read as
follows:
"(b)
The provisions of subsection (a) of this Code section notwithstanding, no person
less than 17 years of age shall operate a motor vehicle upon the highways of
this state while using any mobile telephone, citizens band radio, or any other
two-way electronic communications
device."
SECTION
2.
All
laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
