A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT

To amend an Act placing the sheriff of Lamar County on a salary basis in lieu of a fee basis, approved March 10, 1965 (Ga. L. 1965, p. 2207), as amended, particularly by an Act approved April 25, 1969 (Ga. L. 1969, p. 3539), an Act approved March 30, 1971 (Ga. L. 1971, p. 2500), and an Act approved March 24, 1994 (Ga. L. 1994, p. 4084), so as to repeal certain obsolete provisions; to repeal a provision setting the sheriff́s salary at $10,000.00 annually; to repeal a provision relating to filling vacancies and temporary vacancies in the office of sheriff; to repeal a provision authorizing the appointment of a chief deputy and setting the salary of such chief deputy; to repeal a provision authorizing the governing authority of Lamar County to increase the compensation of the sheriff, chief deputy, and all salaried deputies; to repeal a provision authorizing the employment of a cook and setting the maximum compensation of such employee; to repeal a provision requiring the furnishing of two vehicles to the sheriff; to repeal a provision prohibiting the compensation of certain deputies from county funds; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:

SECTION 1.
An Act placing the sheriff of Lamar County on a salary basis in lieu of a fee basis, approved March 10, 1965 (Ga. L. 1965, p. 2207), as amended, particularly by an Act approved April 25, 1969 (Ga. L. 1969, p. 3539), an Act approved March 30, 1971 (Ga. L. 1971, p. 2500), and an Act approved March 24, 1994 (Ga. L. 1994, p. 4084), is amended by deleting the following sections:
(1) Section 3, fixing the sheriff́s salary at $10,000.00 annually;
(2) Section 3A, providing for filling vacancies and temporary vacancies in the office of sheriff;
(3) Section 4, authorizing appointment of a chief deputy sheriff and fixing the compensation of such chief deputy;

(4) Section 4A, authorizing the governing authority of Lamar County to increase the compensation of the sheriff, the chief deputy, and all salaried deputies;
(5) Section 6, authorizing employment of a cook, and fixing the maximum compensation for such employee;
(6) Section 10, requiring the furnishing of two vehicles to the sheriff; and
(7) Section 18, prohibiting the governing authority of Lamar County from compensating any additional deputy sheriffs out of the funds of Lamar County.

SECTION 2.
All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
