BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
AN ACT
To
authorize the
Recordeŕs
Court of Chatham County to impose and collect a technology fee for each criminal
fine imposed; to specify the uses to which said technology fees may be put; to
provide an effective date; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other
purposes.
BE
IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
SECTION
1.
Upon
a finding by the chief judge of the
Recordeŕs
Court of Chatham County that a need exists for imposition and collection of a
technology fee, the clerk of court shall be entitled to charge and collect a
technology fee to be set by the court, not to exceed $5.00, as a surcharge to
each fine imposed. Technology fees shall be used exclusively to provide for the
technological needs of the court as follows: computer hardware purchase, lease,
maintenance, and installation; imaging, scanning, facsimile, communications,
projection, and printing equipment; and software purchase, lease, maintenance,
development, and installation. The funds collected pursuant to this
authorization shall be maintained in a segregated fund by the clerk of court and
shall be used only for the purposes authorized in this section.
SECTION
2.
This
Act shall become effective upon its approval by the Governor or upon its
becoming law without such approval.
SECTION
3.
All
laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
