BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
AN ACT
To
amend an Act creating a new charter for the City of Stockbridge, approved April
4, 1991 (Ga. L. 1991, p. 4359), as amended, so as to revise certain provisions
relating to membership of elected officials on boards, commissions, and
authorities; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.
BE
IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
SECTION
1.
An
Act creating the charter for the City of Stockbridge, approved April 4, 1991
(Ga. L. 1991, p. 4359), as amended, is amended by striking subsection (a) of
Section 3.11 and inserting in lieu thereof a new subsection (a) to read as
follows:
"(a)
The city council shall hold an organizational meeting at the first regular
meeting in January following an election. The meeting shall be called to order
by the city clerk and the oath of the office shall be administered to the newly
elected members as follows:
'I
do solemnly swear/affirm that I will faithfully perform the duties of
(mayor/councilmember)
of the City of Stockbridge and that I will, to the best of my ability, support
and defend the charter thereof as well as the Constitution and laws of the State
of Georgia and of the United States of America. I further affirm that upon
assumption of this office I do not hold any unaccounted for public money due and
payable to the state, any political subdivision of this state, the City of
Stockbridge, or any authority thereof, nor do I hold any other office of trust
of the government of the United States, of this state, or of any foreign state
as proscribed by the laws of the State of Georgia. I solemnly affirm that I am
fully qualified under the Constitution and the laws of this state to hold the
office of
(mayor/councilmember),
and that I have been a resident of the City of Stockbridge for the entire period
of time required by the Constitution and laws of the State of Georgia. I will
perform the duties of my office in the best interest of the City of Stockbridge
to the best of my ability without fear, favor, affection, reward, or expectation
thereof.'"
SECTION
2.
All
laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
