Welcome to the Georgia House of Representative’s Website! In 1777, what we know now as the General Assembly was formed. It was a unicameral body, meaning there was no separate House and Senate, and the issue of the day was our nation’s independence. Powdered wigs and stockings were in fashion and traveling west of Savannah was an adventure. Atlanta was not even a city.

Today, Georgia is thriving. Thousands of new people come here because of the opportunities, affordable housing, warm climate, beautiful countryside, exciting city life and best of all, the southern hospitality! These wonderful attributes are reflected in the House of Representatives. With 180 members, we are one of the largest and most diverse legislative bodies in the country. My rural district, the 118th, includes all of Dodge and Bleckley County as well as portions of Laurens, Wheeler and Telfair Counties. I have been fortunate to be elected representative for this district for over 25 years and on the first day of the 2003 session, I was elected as Speaker by my House colleagues. Serving in these capacities is an honor and a privilege.

I am very proud of Georgia and encourage all to visit our State Capitol. Here you will see the inner workings of government as all committee meetings and sessions of the House of Representatives are open to the public. Our great staff persons will also assist you in your needs. From Dade County in the mountains to Charlton County in the marshlands, Georgia is a many faceted state with a rich history.
I invite you to use this website to access all the information and resources the House has to offer. We hope it will make Georgians more informed citizens and teach others about our great state.
