| Atlanta -- State Representative Jo Ann McClinton
(D-Atlanta) has been appointed to the Georgia Art Policy Committee Collections
Management Subcommittee by House Speaker Terry Coleman, D-Eastman.
The committee is charged with developing guidelines to provide Georgia
citizens with a quality presentation of the state's impressive collection
of art in the public areas of the state capitol and the capitol education
center.
The panel is further mandated to develop a state capitol art collection
that is of historical significance to the State of Georgia and of high
artistic quality by focusing on the acquisition, maintenance, preservation,
display, and deaccessioning of works of art.
“People visit the Capitol every year from not only Georgia but
other states and all over the world,” said Rep. McClinton. “It
is very important we show them how much we love our state and with the
help of experts in this field, we will make sure Georgia’s history
is properly displayed on the walls of the Capitol and the Education Center.”
Under the legislation creating the committee, no works of art shall
be acquired or displayed in the public areas of the state capitol or
capitol education center without the approval of the Georgia Art Policy
Committee's Collection Management Subcommittee.
Rep. McClinton has been a lawmaker since 1992.
