House Information Office

The House Information Office is the communications center for the Georgia House of Representatives. Through here pass an average of 400 telephone calls daily during sessions. In addition, several hundred pieces of correspondence arrive in the office weekly both from Georgia and from outside the state from people wanting to know about the Georgia Legislature. And because of the wide publication of the office's toll free telephone number (1 800 282 5800), staff members often are asked other questions about other state departments, the U.S. Congress and agencies of the federal government.

Media credentials are also issued in this office. More than 1000 news reporters received passes during a regular session of the General Assembly, giving them access to the controlled print and electronic media areas in the rear of the House Chamber.
While the General Assembly is in session, this office prepares a daily report on the House's activities of the day, which is available after adjournment, and a weekly wrap up, which is available after adjournment each Friday. Both of these items can be accessed by double clicking on "Legislative Reports".

In addition to the toll free telephone number (1 800 282 5800) available for incoming calls, this office maintains an additional toll free telephone system during the session on which taped excerpts from floor debates are recorded 3 times daily for audio pickups by radio stations. These can be accessed by dialing (1 800 282 5801). The daily activities are dually taped (electronically recorded) with one taping saved for historical purposes and the other taping used for:

1. recorded radio feeds on the toll free line.

2 direct feeds to radio stations on matters of local interest
within minutes after their occurrence on the floor.

3. assistance to members of the Capitol News Corp who may have
missed that particular floor debate.

This office also writes press releases which can be accessed by clicking on Recent Press Releases. This is intended to keep the media and the general public current on the latest news out of the House of Representatives.
