SENATOR ROBERT LAMUTT
Robert Lamutt of Marietta was elected to the Georgia State Senate in January, 1996 in a
special election called to fill a vacancy.
A Republican, Lamutt serves on the Economic Development, Tourism and Cultural Affairs
Committee. He is also a member of the prestigious Appropriations Committee, as well as vice
chairman of the Defense, Science and Technology Committee. He is also a member of the
Special Judiciary Committee.
Lamutt is also a member of the Blue Ribbon Commission on the General Assembly which is
exploring ways to modernize the operation of Georgia's legislature.
In 1998 Lamutt authored SB 62, the Electronic Commerce and Digital Signatures Act. During
the 1996 session he successfully cosponsored legislation which opens up access to juvenile
records to advocacy groups which help abused children.
Lamutt was born July 30, 1956 in Colorado Springs, Colorado in a military family. He earned
a BBA in Finance and an MBA from the University of Georgia. A self-employed
businessman, he is the owner of Diversified Assets Management.
Active in the community, Lamutt is a member of the Jaycees, the Cobb County Chamber of
Commerce, and the Young Republicans. He is a member of Habitat for Humanity and the
Freedom Exchange and is involved in the Special Olympics.
Lamutt and his wife, Cynthia, are the parents of two children -- Kyle and Kirby. The Lamutts
attend Johnson Ferry Baptist Church.
The 21st Senatorial District, which Lamutt represents, includes portions of east and northeast
Cobb County.
