                        A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 
                               AN ACT 
 
 
  1- 1  To amend Code Section 40-6-228 of the Official Code of 
  1- 2  Georgia Annotated, relating to enforcement of provisions of 
  1- 3  the "Parking Law for Persons with Disabilities," so as to 
  1- 4  provide for appointment of parents or guardians of persons 
  1- 5  with disabilities for enforcement purposes; to repeal 
  1- 6  conflicting laws; and for other purposes. 
 
  1- 7       BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA: 
 
  1- 8                           SECTION 1. 
 
  1- 9  Code Section 40-6-228 of the Official Code of Georgia 
  1-10  Annotated, relating to enforcement of provisions of the 
  1-11  "Parking Law for Persons with Disabilities," is amended by 
  1-12  striking subsection (a) and inserting in lieu thereof the 
  1-13  following: 
 
  1-14    "(a) Any county or municipal law enforcement agency of the 
  1-15    state which is empowered to enforce the provisions of this 
  1-16    part may, in its discretion, appoint any person who is a 
  1-17    citizen of the United States, is of good moral character, 
  1-18    has not previously been convicted of a felony, and is a 
  1-19    person with disabilities as defined in paragraph (5) of 
  1-20    Code Section 40-6-221 or a parent or guardian thereof to 
  1-21    enforce the provisions of Code Section 40-6-226 within the 
  1-22    county or municipality in which the appointing law 
  1-23    enforcement agency exercises jurisdiction. Each person 
  1-24    appointed pursuant to this Code section shall take and 
  1-25    subscribe an oath of office as prescribed by the 
  1-26    appointing authority.  Any person appointed and sworn 
  1-27    pursuant to this subsection shall be authorized to enforce 
  1-28    the provisions of this part in the same manner as any law 
  1-29    enforcement officer of the state or any county or 
  1-30    municipality of the state subject to the limitations 
  1-31    provided in subsections (b) and (c) of this Code section." 
 
  1-32                           SECTION 2. 
 
  1-33  All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are 
  1-34  repealed.
