                             A RESOLUTION 
 
  1- 1  Commending Joyce Ouzts Rodgers; and for other purposes. 
 
  1- 2  WHEREAS, Joyce Ouzts Rodgers has been the Director of 
  1- 3  Nursing and Clinical Services for the Henry County Health 
  1- 4  Department since 1997.  In that demanding position, she 
  1- 5  supervises a staff of 22 and manages nursing and clinical 
  1- 6  services for both the health centers in Henry County; and 
 
  1- 7  WHEREAS, Joyce has devoted most of her working life to 
  1- 8  serving the health of the people of Henry County, working as 
  1- 9  a registered nurse beginning in 1976 and then as head nurse 
  1-10  in 1995 prior to her promotion; and 
 
  1-11  WHEREAS, Joyce hails from south Georgia where she graduated 
  1-12  from Cairo High School in 1956.  She then came to Atlanta to 
  1-13  pursue her dream of caring for people and graduated from 
  1-14  Grady School of Nursing in 1959; and 
 
  1-15  WHEREAS, in 1960, Joyce married Elwyn Rodgers and together 
  1-16  they had two lovely children, Denese and David.  Joyce and 
  1-17  Elwyn will be celebrating 39 years of marriage this year; 
  1-18  and 
 
  1-19  WHEREAS, Joyce is also a member of the Henry Medical Center 
  1-20  Advisory Board where she can share her wisdom and experience 
  1-21  with those who shape the future of health care.  She has 
  1-22  developed the Prescription Referral Program, the Abnormal 
  1-23  Pap Follow-Up Program, and the Mammography Program; and 
 
  1-24  WHEREAS, Joyce still finds time to be a community volunteer 
  1-25  and nurture her spiritual life.  She is an active member of 
  1-26  the Timberridge Presbyterian Church, the Optimist 
  1-27  International, the Henry County "Civilian Police Academy," 
  1-28  the Henry County Council on Child Abuse, the Georgia State 
  1-29  Baby First Step Program, Safe Kids, the McDonough Merchant's 
  1-30  Association, the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Henry 
  1-31  County Republican Committee.  She also serves on the Child 
  1-32  Fatality Review Board and the executive committee of the 
  1-33  Henry County Family Connection; and 
 
  1-34  WHEREAS, this incredible lady also represents the Henry 
  1-35  County Health Department in its dealings with the Chamber of 
  1-36  Commerce, is working to develop a Wellness Program for Henry

  2- 1  County Employees, and was the chair of the committee for the 
  2- 2  1998 Leadership Henry Board of Directors; and 
 
  2- 3  WHEREAS, given all of her accomplishments and contributions, 
  2- 4  Joyce was the obvious choice to be the recipient of the 
  2- 5  prestigious Henry County 1998 Athena Award; and 
 
  2- 6  WHEREAS, it is strong women like Joyce Ouzts Rodgers who 
  2- 7  have made the communities of Georgia the great and healthy 
  2- 8  places to live and work that they are and it is only fitting 
  2- 9  and proper that she be recognized for all she has done and 
  2-10  continues to do. 
 
  2-11  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 
  2-12  REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Joyce 
  2-13  Ouzts Rodgers for her outstanding achievements in the health 
  2-14  care field and for her selfless community service. 
 
  2-15  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of 
  2-16  Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
