A RESOLUTION
1- 1 Commending Mrs. Jessie Gurley; and for other purposes.
1- 2 WHEREAS, Mrs. Jessie Gurley was born on November 17, 1893,
1- 3 in the White Oak Springs community of Paulding County,
1- 4 Georgia; and
1- 5 WHEREAS, Mrs. Gurley is the daughter of Mr. Johnny Baxter
1- 6 and Mrs. Jossie Butler, who are now deceased; and
1- 7 WHEREAS, she joined Mount Olivet Baptist Church in 1912
1- 8 where she remains as the oldest member both in years of
1- 9 membership and in age; and
1-10 WHEREAS, Mrs. Gurley was married to W.H. (Bill) Gurley on
1-11 October 20, 1912, by the Reverend J.W. Womack; and
1-12 WHEREAS, she has lived her entire life in Paulding County,
1-13 mostly at her homeplace at 1100 Willow Springs Road; and
1-14 WHEREAS, Mrs. Gurley is widely known for her outstanding
1-15 cooking, especially her homemade cornbread from home-grown
1-16 and locally milled corn; and
1-17 WHEREAS, she is a woman of character and has exceptional
1-18 love for her husband, five sons, three grandchildren, and
1-19 four great-grandchildren; and
1-20 WHEREAS, Mrs. Gurley is one of the oldest living citizens of
1-21 Paulding County and has seen the beginning of two new
1-22 centuries, the twentieth and the twenty-first.
1-23 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
1-24 REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and
1-25 honor Mrs. Jessie Gurley as an outstanding citizen of the
1-26 State of Georgia.
1-27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of
1-28 Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
1-29 appropriate copy of this resolution to Mrs. Jessie Gurley.
