A RESOLUTION
1- 1 Commemorating the Keep Georgia Beautiful Program and its 59
1- 2 local affiliates who serve 80 percent of the population of
1- 3 the State of Georgia; and for other purposes.
1- 4 WHEREAS, Keep Georgia Beautiful, a program of the Georgia
1- 5 Department of Community Affairs, was founded in 1978 as the
1- 6 first state affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, Inc.; and
1- 7 WHEREAS, Keep Georgia Beautiful builds and sustains
1- 8 community environmental activities and behaviors for a more
1- 9 beautiful and environmentally aware Georgia; and
1-10 WHEREAS, Keep Georgia Beautiful and its 59 local Keep
1-11 America Beautiful affiliates enhance the quality of life in
1-12 Georgia by focusing on litter prevention, community
1-13 beautification and improvement, and reducing the impact of
1-14 waste on communities; and
1-15 WHEREAS, Keep Georgia Beautiful and local Keep America
1-16 Beautiful affiliates conduct educational and community
1-17 improvement activities and programs that change behaviors
1-18 and attitudes toward the environment; and
1-19 WHEREAS, the success enjoyed by Keep Georgia Beautiful and
1-20 its local programs is built upon strong partnerships with
1-21 government, private businesses, schools, and
1-22 citizen-volunteers at the grass roots level; and
1-23 WHEREAS, Keep Georgia Beautiful and its programs empower
1-24 local people to take responsibility for preserving and
1-25 protecting Georgia's natural resources and environment.
1-26 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
1-27 REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commemorate
1-28 the Keep Georgia Beautiful Program, its 59 local affiliates
1-29 whose 400,000 volunteers amassed two million volunteer man
1-30 hours and donated $27.4 million in benefits to Georgia
1-31 communities last year.
1-32 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of
1-33 Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit
1-34 appropriate copies of this resolution to the public and the
1-35 press.
