                        A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 
                               AN ACT 
 
 
  1- 1  To amend Code Section 15-6-72 of the Official Code of 
  1- 2  Georgia Annotated, relating to recordation and index of 
  1- 3  military discharges by the clerk of superior court, so as to 
  1- 4  provide that a veteran may submit certain other information 
  1- 5  to the clerk of the superior court for recordation; to 
  1- 6  require the clerk of the superior court to record and index 
  1- 7  such other information in the books in which military 
  1- 8  discharges are recorded; to repeal conflicting laws; and for 
  1- 9  other purposes. 
 
  1-10       BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA: 
 
  1-11                           SECTION 1. 
 
  1-12  Code Section 15-6-72 of the Official Code of Georgia 
  1-13  Annotated, relating to recordation and index of military 
  1-14  discharges by the clerk of superior court, is amended by 
  1-15  striking subsection (a) in its entirety and inserting in 
  1-16  lieu thereof a new subsection (a) to read as follows: 
 
  1-17    "(a) The county commissioners or other officers having 
  1-18    charge of a county's business shall provide a book or 
  1-19    books for the clerk of the superior court in the county, 
  1-20    in which the clerk shall record and index the discharge 
  1-21    certificates of all former members of the armed services 
  1-22    of the United States residing in the county, showing their 
  1-23    discharge from military service.  The clerk shall from 
  1-24    time to time be furnished such additional books for such 
  1-25    purpose as may be necessary.  Every entry shall be signed 
  1-26    by the clerk and dated with the year, day, and hour 
  1-27    accurately stated, and a certificate of registry shall be 
  1-28    endorsed by the clerk on each discharge recorded. In 
  1-29    addition, a veteran may submit the following information 
  1-30    to the clerk of the superior court who shall record and 
  1-31    index such information in the same books in which military 
  1-32    discharges are recorded: 
 
  1-33      (1) Copy 4, DD Form 214 issued by the United States 
  1-34      government;

  2- 1      (2) Any copy of DD Form 214 with a raised seal issued by 
  2- 2      the United States National Personnel Records Center; or 
 
  2- 3      (3) United States National Archives Form 13038." 
 
  2- 4                           SECTION 2. 
 
  2- 5  All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
