The House Committee on Industrial Relations offers
the following substitute to HB 549:
A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
1- 1 To amend Chapter 4 of Title 34 of the Official Code of
1- 2 Georgia Annotated, relating to the minimum wage law, so as
1- 3 to change the minimum wage; to provide an effective date; to
1- 4 repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.
1- 5 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
1- 6 SECTION 1.
1- 7 Chapter 4 of Title 34 of the Official Code of Georgia
1- 8 Annotated, relating to the minimum wage law, is amended by
1- 9 striking subsection (a) of Code Section 34-4-3, relating to
1-10 the amount of minimum wage to be paid by employers, and
1-11 inserting in lieu thereof the following:
1-12 "(a) Except as otherwise provided in this Code section,
1-13 every employer, whether a person, firm, or corporation,
1-14 shall pay to all covered employees a minimum wage which
1-15 shall be not less than $3.25 $5.15 per hour for each hour
1-16 worked in the employment of such employer."
1-17 SECTION 2.
1-18 This Act shall become effective on July 1, 2001.
1-19 SECTION 3.
1-20 All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
1-21 repealed.
