A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
1- 1 To amend Chapter 1 of Title 43 of the Official Code of
1- 2 Georgia Annotated, relating to general provisions regarding
1- 3 the regulation of professions and businesses, so as to
1- 4 require that members of state examining boards reside in
1- 5 this state during their terms of office; to provide for
1- 6 replacement of any member who ceases to be a state resident;
1- 7 to provide for an effective date; to repeal conflicting
1- 8 laws; and for other purposes.
1- 9 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
1-10 SECTION 1.
1-11 Chapter 1 of Title 43 of the Official Code of Georgia
1-12 Annotated, relating to general provisions regarding the
1-13 regulation of professions and businesses, is amended by
1-14 striking in its entirety Code Section 43-1-14, relating to
1-15 the authority of the Governor to appoint qualified persons
1-16 to state examining boards, and inserting in lieu thereof a
1-17 new Code Section 43-1-14 to read as follows:
1-18 "43-1-14.
1-19 (a) The Governor is authorized to appoint any person who
1-20 is otherwise qualified as provided by law to serve as a
1-21 member of any state examining board for a regular term or
1-22 for an unexpired term, notwithstanding the fact that the
1-23 law creating such board requires the Governor to appoint
1-24 members from a list of nominees submitted by a private
1-25 organization or association.
1-26 (b) Any person appointed to serve as a member of any state
1-27 examining board shall be a resident of the state during
1-28 his or her term of office, and the Governor shall replace
1-29 any member who, after appointment, ceases to be a resident
1-30 of this state."
1-31 SECTION 2.
1-32 This Act shall become effective on July 1, 1999.

2- 2 All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
2- 3 repealed.
