                        A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 
                               AN ACT 
 
 
  1- 1  To amend Chapter 16 of Title 31 of the Official Code of 
  1- 2  Georgia Annotated, relating to care and treatment of renal 
  1- 3  disease, so as to provide for standards of certain personnel 
  1- 4  of kidney dialysis centers and prohibit operation of such 
  1- 5  centers whose personnel do not meet those standards; to 
  1- 6  provide an effective date; to repeal conflicting laws; and 
  1- 7  for other purposes. 
 
  1- 8       BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA: 
 
  1- 9                           SECTION 1. 
 
  1-10  Chapter 16 of Title 31 of the Official Code of Georgia 
  1-11  Annotated, relating to care and treatment of renal disease, 
  1-12  is amended by adding after Code Section 31-16-5 a new Code 
  1-13  section to read as follows: 
 
  1-14    "31-16-5.1. 
 
  1-15    The department shall provide by regulation not later than 
  1-16    July 1, 1999, for education, training, and experience 
  1-17    standards for technicians and other personnel performing 
  1-18    medical functions at kidney dialysis centers.  No such 
  1-19    center shall operate in this state on or after January 1, 
  1-20    2000, unless its personnel meet the applicable standards 
  1-21    so established." 
 
  1-22                           SECTION 2. 
 
  1-23  This Act shall become effective upon its approval by the 
  1-24  Governor or upon its becoming law without such approval. 
 
  1-25                           SECTION 3. 
 
  1-26  All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are 
  1-27  repealed.
