                        A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 
                               AN ACT 
 
 
  1- 1  To amend an Act creating the State Court of Cobb County, 
  1- 2  approved March 26, 1964 (Ga. L. 1964, p. 3211), as amended, 
  1- 3  particularly by an Act approved April 1, 1999 (Ga. L. 1999, 
  1- 4  p. 3624), and an Act approved April 16, 1999 (Ga. L. 1999, 
  1- 5  p. 4241), so as to change the compensation of the 
  1- 6  solicitor-general; to change the provisions relating to the 
  1- 7  compensation of assistant solicitors; to provide for related 
  1- 8  matters; to provide an effective date; to repeal conflicting 
  1- 9  laws; and for other purposes. 
 
  1-10       BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA: 
 
  1-11                           SECTION 1. 
 
  1-12  An Act creating the State Court of Cobb County, approved 
  1-13  March 26, 1964 (Ga. L. 1964, p. 3211), as amended, 
  1-14  particularly by an Act approved April 1, 1999 (Ga. L. 1999, 
  1-15  p. 3624), and an Act approved April 16, 1999 (Ga. L. 1999, 
  1-16  p. 4241), is amended by striking paragraph (1) of subsection 
  1-17  (b) of Section 27 of said Act and inserting in lieu thereof 
  1-18  a new paragraph (1) to read as follows: 
 
  1-19      "(1) The compensation of the solicitor-general shall be 
  1-20      $88,934.11 per year, payable in equal monthly 
  1-21      installments from the funds of Cobb County." 
 
  1-22                           SECTION 2. 
 
  1-23  Said Act is further amended by striking subsection (d) of 
  1-24  Section 27 and inserting in lieu thereof a new subsection 
  1-25  (d) to read as follows: 
 
  1-26    "(d) The solicitor-general shall have the authority to 
  1-27    appoint the same number of assistant solicitors as the 
  1-28    number of judges of Division I and Division II of the 
  1-29    State Court of Cobb County and the same number of 
  1-30    additional assistant solicitors as the number of 
  1-31    magistrates of the Magistrate Court of Cobb County, plus 
  1-32    three additional assistant solicitors, one of whom shall 
  1-33    be the chief assistant solicitor, one of whom may be the

  2- 1    deputy assistant solicitor, and one of whom may serve as 
  2- 2    an intake attorney at the Cobb County Adult Detention 
  2- 3    Center. The compensation of such assistant solicitors 
  2- 4    shall be determined by the solicitor-general, except that 
  2- 5    said compensation of such assistant solicitors, except the 
  2- 6    chief assistant solicitor and the deputy assistant 
  2- 7    solicitor, shall not exceed $64,896.00, payable in equal 
  2- 8    monthly installments from the funds of Cobb County.  The 
  2- 9    compensation of the deputy assistant solicitor shall not 
  2-10    exceed $74,880.00, payable in equal monthly installments 
  2-11    from the funds of Cobb County.  The compensation of the 
  2-12    chief assistant solicitor shall not exceed $79,000.00 and 
  2-13    shall be paid in the same manner as all other assistant 
  2-14    solicitors. The solicitor-general shall prescribe the 
  2-15    duties and assignments of said assistant solicitors and, 
  2-16    while so employed, they shall not engage in the private 
  2-17    practice of law." 
 
  2-18                           SECTION 3. 
 
  2-19  This Act shall become effective on July 1, 2000. 
 
  2-20                           SECTION 4. 
 
  2-21  All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
