                        A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 
                               AN ACT 
 
 
  1- 1  To amend Code Section 20-2-2063 of the Official Code of 
  1- 2  Georgia Annotated, relating to petitions to establish a 
  1- 3  charter school, so as to require that petitions to establish 
  1- 4  a charter school must provide that the governing body of the 
  1- 5  proposed charter school take action by the affirmative vote 
  1- 6  of a majority of the members of the governing body; to 
  1- 7  provide for an effective date and applicability; to repeal 
  1- 8  conflicting laws; and for other purposes. 
 
  1- 9       BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA: 
 
  1-10                           SECTION 1. 
 
  1-11  Code Section 20-2-2063 of the Official Code of Georgia 
  1-12  Annotated, relating to petitions to establish a charter 
  1-13  school, is amended by adding a new paragraph, to be 
  1-14  designated as paragraph (6.1), to read as follows: 
 
  1-15      "(6.1) Provide that such governing body shall take 
  1-16      action by the affirmative vote of a majority of the 
  1-17      members of the governing body;" 
 
  1-18                           SECTION 2. 
 
  1-19  This Act shall become effective on July 1, 2000, and shall 
  1-20  apply with respect to charters that are granted or renewed 
  1-21  on or after that date. 
 
  1-22                           SECTION 3. 
 
  1-23  All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are 
  1-24  repealed.
