                        A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 
                               AN ACT 
 
 
  1- 1  To amend Title 27 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, 
  1- 2  relating to game and fish, so as to provide conditions for 
  1- 3  the noncommercial taking of shrimp; to provide an effective 
  1- 4  date; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes. 
 
  1- 5       BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA: 
 
  1- 6                           SECTION 1. 
 
  1- 7  Title 27 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating 
  1- 8  to game and fish, is amended by striking in its entirety 
  1- 9  Code Section 27-4-13, relating to size and construction 
  1-10  requirements of cast nets, and inserting in lieu thereof the 
  1-11  following: 
 
  1-12    "27-4-13. 
 
  1-13    (a) Except as otherwise provided in subsection (b) of this 
  1-14    Code section, all cast nets used in the waters of the 
  1-15    state shall be constructed of a uniform mesh size and a 
  1-16    uniform mesh material from the thimble, also known as the 
  1-17    horn, of the net to the lead line. The lead line shall 
  1-18    consist of a line to which is attached a minimum of 
  1-19    three-fourths pounds of lead per radius foot. 
 
  1-20    (b) All cast nets, other than recreational food shrimp 
  1-21    cast nets, used for taking shrimp in the waters of the 
  1-22    state shall be constructed of a uniform mesh size and a 
  1-23    uniform mesh material from the thimble, also known as the 
  1-24    horn, of the net to the lead line.  The brail or tuck 
  1-25    lines shall be of uniform diameter and constructed of the 
  1-26    same material as the mesh.  The lead line shall consist of 
  1-27    a round line to which is attached a minimum of 
  1-28    three-quarters of a pound of lead per radius foot. 
 
  1-29    (c) It shall be unlawful to use a cast net not in 
  1-30    conformity with the provisions of this Code section. It 
  1-31    shall be unlawful to possess in a vessel a cast net not in 
  1-32    conformity with the provisions of either subsection (a) or 
  1-33    subsection (b) of this Code section."

  2- 1                           SECTION 2. 
 
  2- 2  This Act shall become effective upon the approval of this 
  2- 3  Act by the Governor or upon its becoming law without such 
  2- 4  approval. 
 
  2- 5                           SECTION 3. 
 
  2- 6  All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
