|
A native of Carroll County, Stallings attended local schools. He is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Georgia in journalsim, holds a master's degree in counseling from the State University of West Georgia, and has a PhD. degree in educational leadership from Georgia State University.
He began a journalism career as a sportswriter while in high school, and continued his journalism career after college and military service as a reporter and editorial writer on The Atlanta Journal for three years.
He then served at the State University of West Georgia for more than three decades. He was, at various times, the Director of College Relations, Dean of Student Affairs, and Director of Continuing Education.
His political career includes six years as a member of the Carrollton Board of Education, nearly 14 years as Mayor of Carrollton, and service since 1994 as a representative from Distict 100 in the Georgia House of Representatives.
He is married to the former Shirley Crawfrod of Haralson County, and they have four children. He is active in the First Baptist Church, the Rotary Club, the American Legion, and other civic organizations. He is a former president of the Georgia Municipal Association, and former chair of the Georgia Criminal Justice Coordinating Council.
His hobbies include collecting old western novels, writing country songs, learning to play the violin, and collecting antique stock and bond certificates.
