Doug Dean is a product of Summerhill, Atlanta's oldest African-Americancommunity settled after Reconstruction by freed slaves. Mr. Dean was educated in Atlanta Public Schools and majored in Business Administration at Pasadena City College.
Currently, he serves as President and CEO of Summerhill Neighborhood Inc., a community development coproration that serves as a model for urban revitalization efforts across the nation. Mr. dEan also serves as President of C&P Martin Inc., a family real estate company.
Having recently toured Johannesburg, South Africa where he visited in the Office of President Nelson Mandela and shared his insight into community development, Mr. Dean returned even more committed and convinced of the Summerhill plan believing that if it can happen in Summerhipp, the model can be transplanted and made to work across America.
Doug Dean has been a servant leader in Atlanta for over twenty years. He represented the 29th House District in the Georgia General Assembly for twelve years. During his tenure in the Georgia General Assembly, he served in three standing committees: Health & Ecology, Retirement, and Regulated Beverages. He has served as President of the Mama Baker Child Development Center; Vice Chairman of the Pittsburgh Partnership and a member of the Board of Directors for Southside Health Center. He is also Co-Chairperson of the Southside Cluster and a member of the Advisory Committee for the Atlanta Project headed by former President Carter.
Doug Dean is married to the former Brenda Martin and they are the parents of two daughters, Angela and Tamela and the proud grandparents of two girls and one boy. He and his family are members of Ariel Bowen United Methodist Church in Atlanta.
