Day 21 -- Former State Representative Denmark Groover was honored by, and spoke before, the House today. Mr. Groover was a legislator in the fifties, sixties, seventies, eighties, and nineties and joked that he was the only five time freshman legislator. He also served in World War II as a fighter pilot.
One of the bills taken up today, H.B. 255, which passed by a vote of 161 to 3, allows brokers to file a notice of a right to a commission on a deed record. The bill is intended to help brokers who have added value to property through the addition of leases be fully compensated.
Another bill H.B. 331, includes reasonable attorney's fees in the cost of collection in workers compensation fees. The bill also provides that hearings may be held within 50 miles of the county of injury.
