House Information is the communications center for the House of Representatives. Through here pass an average of 400 telephone messages daily during sessions. In addition, several hundred pieces of correspondence arrive in the office weekly from Georgia and outside the state from people wanting to know more about the Georgia Legislature.
During the session, this office prepares a weekly wrap-up available at adjournment each Friday on all measure acted on. Daily activities of the legislative session are dually taped with one taping saved for historical purposes and the other taping is used for recorded radio feeds on the toll-free line (1-800-282-5801), direct feeds to radio stations, and for assistance to the members of the Capitol News Corps.
This office schedules and arranges news conferences for members of the House, writes new releases, keeps the media current on House events, and serves as a direct liaison between the Office of the Speaker and the media outlets around the state.
Staff members give speeches around the state and assist secondary schools, colleges and universities in public affairs programs relating to the House of Representatives.
The House Information Office also is involved in the execution of special projects such as the Bicentennial Ceremony opening the 1976 session, the 1977 and 1982 "homecomings" for former House members, visits of dignitaries such as Prince Charles, Ray Charles, and President Jimmy Carter.
