Instructions for Navigation of Web Site

Introduction

The Legislative Website is a public service provided by the Georgia General Assembly. Visitors may search current legislation, access legislation as far back as 1995, and general information about the Georgia General Assembly. This website serves as the information doorway to the legislative process and to the supporting offices.

Using the Legislative Website

Click the word Legislation on the Home Page to go directly to the Legislation web page. Options available on the Legislation web page are as follows.

  • To retrieve Bills or Resolutions use the drop-down arrow to select (HB)House Bill, (SB)Senate Bill, (HR)House Resolution or (SR)Senate Resolution. Enter a Bill or Resolution number and click on Retrieve the Bill to display the Bill or Resolution summary page. From the summary page you may access the full text of the bill, amendments, and the author(s) of the legislation. Additionally you may find the votes taken in relation to this piece of legislation as well as link(s) to various versions.
  • To review legislation signed by the Governor click on the link Signed by the Governor.
  • Additional links are provided to view numerical lists of Bills and Resolutions as well as First Readers.
    Legislative Search - Click on Legislative Search to search for legislation:
  • Legislative Search - This link provides access to the Legislative Search page. Search current or previous legislation by keyword(s) or text. To help narrow your search you can select from the drop-down menu using the arrow next to the categories;
    match - matches all, any, or Boolean of the text or keyword(s) entered;
    format - long - returns results of Bill content from your keyword search with the text highlighted and gives the file name or title of the Bill, short - returns only the file name or title of the Bill,
    Score - returns the results of your search based on the percentage of accuracy from your keyword or text search.
    Time - gives you results of your search by titles in a date order, as it is posted on the web site, title - returns your search by titles in alphabetical order. Reverse Score, Time or Title – reverses the search results order of score, time and title.
  • Code of GA - access the Un-annotated Georgia Code Titles. Select from a list of Code Sections to retrieve the Code Section text. Also included in this link is a keyword search of the Georgia Code.
    House Page - Click the word House to view the House of Representatives home page. Where the following links may be found via the Navigation Menu:
  • Representatives by Name - To view an alphabetical list of Representatives. Located on this link is their City of residence and, if they elected to display it, you will find their email address. Every member has an assigned email address (provided by the General Assembly). However, some desire to communicate with their constituents in person, via phone and written correspondence.
  • Representatives by District - Similar to the alphabetical list only in numeric order by their district number.
  • General Calendar - allows you to select, from a list of dates, House Bills reported out of committee and available for legislative action.
  • Clerk of the House - lists the duties and responsibilities as performed by the Clerk of the House.
  • Rules Calendar - Beginning with day 11 the Rules Committee will select legislation from the General Calendar for consideration by the body of the House. The selected legislation will be included on the Rules Calendar.
  • Committee Meetings - list by date and time of Committee meetings.
  • Speaker’s Welcome - A message from the Speaker of the House.
  • Member Services - A link to the House Communications Office web page where you will find legislative reports (daily and weekly wrap-up) and information on How a Bill Becomes a Law.
  • House Rules - A PDF file which contains the rules for the House of Representatives.
  • House Votes- A link to the results of electronic votes.
    Senate Page - Click on the word Senate on the Navigation Toolbar to visit the Senate web page, where you can access the following links via the Navigation Menu:
  • Senators by Name - An alphabetical list of Senators. Located on this link is their City of residence and their email address
  • Senators by District - Same information as the previous list sorted by their district number.
  • Senate Committees - An alphabetical list of all Senate committees. From this list you may access the committee page. The committee page contains a list of legislation assigned to that committee.
  • Secretary of the Senate - links to a page indicating the official duties and responsibilities of the Secretary of the Senate.
  • Lt. Governor - This link will transfer you to the official web page of the Lieutenant Governor.
  • Committee Meetings - To display the time and place of Senate committee meetings.
  • Senate General Calendar - The General Calendar lists bills and resolutions which are ready to the acted upon by the Senate.
  • Senate Votes - links to a list of electronic votes, indicating the vote number, time, date, Bill number and description of the vote.
  • Senate Rules Calendar - Set by the rules committee. Published during the last 25 days of the Session. Lists bills and resolutions to be acted upon by the Senate.
  • Research Office - links to the Senate Research office web page, which provides an overview of the senate and reports prepared by special assignment.
  • Senate Leadership - a who's who in the State Senate.
  • Information Office - links to the Senate Information web page. Contains an overview of the office, staff list, daily and weekly wrap-up reports.
  • Senate Facts - History, facts and brief descriptions of various programs.
  • Senate Rules - A PDF file which contains the rules for the Senate.
