                             A RESOLUTION 
  1- 1  Expressing regret at the passing of Rev. Payton B. Cook; and 
  1- 2  for other purposes. 
  1- 3  WHEREAS, on November 5, 1998, the State of Georgia lost one 
  1- 4  of its finest and most distinguished citizens in the passing 
  1- 5  of Rev. Payton B. Cook of Milledgeville, Georgia; and 
  1- 6  WHEREAS, Rev. Cook was the Coordinator of Consulting 
  1- 7  Chaplains at Central State Hospital; and 
  1- 8  WHEREAS, he moved to Milledgeville in 1963 and was appointed 
  1- 9  as a member of the newly formed Clinical Chaplaincy Program 
  1-10  at Central State Hospital; and 
  1-11  WHEREAS, Rev. Cook was one of the first African Americans to 
  1-12  integrate the professional ranks at the hospital; and 
  1-13  WHEREAS, in 1979, he was appointed Chief of the Long Term 
  1-14  Care Division at Central State Hospital and he retired from 
  1-15  that position in 1996; and 
  1-16  WHEREAS, Rev. Cook was known for his many tireless hours of 
  1-17  work in the community and, at the time of his death, he was 
  1-18  serving as President of the Middle Georgia Paine College 
  1-19  Club, a member of the Georgia College and State University 
  1-20  Foundation Board, a member of the Habitat for Humanity of 
  1-21  Baldwin County Board, a member of the Human Relations Board 
  1-22  of Baldwin County, a member of the Middle Georgia Girl Scout 
  1-23  Council Board of Directors, a member of the Milledgeville 
  1-24  Planning and Zoning Commission, and as a member of the 
  1-25  Oconee Regional Medical Center Board of Directors; and 
  1-26  WHEREAS, Rev. Cook will be remembered as a Christian man, a 
  1-27  compassionate man, a role model, and a person who blazed a 
  1-28  path for coming generations to follow. 
  1-30  REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body express their 
  1-31  deepest and sincerest regrets at the passing of one of this 
  1-32  state's most outstanding and distinguished citizens, Rev. 
  1-33  Payton B. Cook. 
  1-34  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of 
  1-35  Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an 
  2- 1  appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Rev. 
  2- 2  Payton B. Cook.
