                             A RESOLUTION 
  1- 1  Commending Senator David Ralston of the 51st District; and 
  1- 2  for other purposes. 
  1- 3  WHEREAS, Senator David Ralston was elected to represent the 
  1- 4  51st Senate district in 1992 in his first bid for public 
  1- 5  office.  Senator Ralston was re-elected in both 1994 and 
  1- 6  1996 with no opposition due to his excellent public service; 
  1- 7  and 
  1- 8  WHEREAS, Senator Ralston is a Republican and lives in Blue 
  1- 9  Ridge with his wife, Jane, and their two children, Elizabeth 
  1-10  and Matthew.  He is a graduate of both North Georgia College 
  1-11  and the University of Georgia Law School and has practiced 
  1-12  law in Blue Ridge for more than 13 years; and 
  1-13  WHEREAS, an active member of the community, Senator Ralston 
  1-14  is past president of the Appalachian Circuit Bar Association 
  1-15  and the Blue Ridge Mountain Arts Association.  He serves on 
  1-16  the board of directors of Vocational Transitions, Inc., and 
  1-17  Limestone Valley Resource Conservation & Development 
  1-18  District.  He has also been a member of the State Bar of 
  1-19  Georgia Board of Governors; and 
  1-20  WHEREAS, in the Senate, Senator Ralston serves on the 
  1-21  Appropriations, Education, Judiciary, and Rules Committees. 
  1-22  He chairs the Senate Republican Welfare Reform Task Force 
  1-23  and was recently elected vice chairman of the Senate 
  1-24  Republican Caucus for the 1997-98 term; and 
  1-25  WHEREAS, in 1994, after one term in the Senate, Senator 
  1-26  Ralston was named to be one of two Georgia legislators to 
  1-27  attend the prestigious National Program for Emerging 
  1-28  Political Leaders at the University of Virginia's graduate 
  1-29  school of business; and 
  1-30  WHEREAS, in 1995, Senator Ralston chaired the Senate Study 
  1-31  Committee on Privatization of Governmental Services and 
  1-32  Functions.  He has also been appointed by Governor Zell 
  1-33  Miller to the Governor's Privatization Commission; and 
  1-34  WHEREAS, Senator Ralston represents Cherokee, Fannin, 
  1-35  Gilmer, Gordon, and Pickens Counties in the State Senate 
  2- 1  with distinction and his presence in the Senate will be 
  2- 2  missed. 
  2- 4  members of this body commend Senator David Ralston for his 
  2- 5  dedicated work on behalf of all Georgians. 
  2- 6  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is 
  2- 7  authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of 
  2- 8  this resolution to Senator David Ralston.
