                             A RESOLUTION 
 
  1- 1  Honoring Colquitt Dowdy; and for other purposes. 
 
  1- 2  WHEREAS, Colquitt Dowdy was born on January 21, 1930, in 
  1- 3  Tattnall County, Georgia, and has been a lifetime resident 
  1- 4  and servant of that county; and 
 
  1- 5  WHEREAS, Colquitt Dowdy joined the United States Army on 
  1- 6  January 5, 1948, and served and protected the United States 
  1- 7  of America, the State of Georgia, and the County of Tattnall 
  1- 8  honorably for 20 years, six months, and 26 days; and 
 
  1- 9  WHEREAS, Colquitt Dowdy defended the United States of 
  1-10  America, the State of Georgia, and the County of Tattnall 
  1-11  while serving in the army in United States, Korea, Japan, 
  1-12  France, and Germany; and 
 
  1-13  WHEREAS, Colquitt Dowdy was awarded the National Defense 
  1-14  Service Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the United Nations 
  1-15  Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, three awards of the 
  1-16  Good Conduct Medal, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the POW 
  1-17  Medal, and on December 8, 1997, the Purple Heart Medal for 
  1-18  wounds sustained while engaged in mortal combat on December 
  1-19  1, 1950; and 
 
  1-20  WHEREAS, Colquitt Dowdy served in seven combat campaigns in 
  1-21  Korea, was captured on December 1, 1950, was missing in 
  1-22  action until March 29, 1951, and was a Prisoner of War until 
  1-23  August 28, 1953, when he was released after 1,003 days in a 
  1-24  North Korean Prisoner of War camp; and 
 
  1-25  WHEREAS, Colquitt Dowdy is truly an outstanding Georgian. 
 
  1-26  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the 
  1-27  members of this body honor Sergeant First Class Colquitt 
  1-28  Dowdy, United States Army, Retired, for his unselfish and 
  1-29  dedicated service to the United States of America, the State 
  1-30  of Georgia, and the County of Tattnall. 
 
  1-31  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is 
  1-32  authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of 
  1-33  this resolution to Colquitt Dowdy.
