                             A RESOLUTION 
  1- 1  Congratulating Mr. William A. Tucker on the event of his 
  1- 2  70th birthday; and for other purposes. 
  1- 3  WHEREAS, Mr. William A. Tucker was born on September 15, 
  1- 4  1928, in Greenville, North Carolina, the great-great 
  1- 5  grandson of Thomas Bell and the fourth child of Robert 
  1- 6  Tucker and Retha Bell Tucker, who instilled in him love of 
  1- 7  family, respect for others, and a strong motivation to 
  1- 8  achieve his personal goals; and 
  1- 9  WHEREAS, he met and married Helen Hemby, and they have three 
  1-10  daughters, two sons, and three grandchildren who love, 
  1-11  admire, and respect them deeply; and 
  1-12  WHEREAS, William A. Tucker served his country for 26 years, 
  1-13  22 in the United States Air Force, all with honor and 
  1-14  distinction in World War II and the Korean and Vietnam Wars; 
  1-15  and 
  1-16  WHEREAS, after retirement from the military in 1974, he 
  1-17  became a Longshoreman and ultimately became the President of 
  1-18  Newport News Local 846; he retired as Longshoreman in 1995; 
  1-19  and 
  1-20  WHEREAS, William Tucker is a life member of the U.S. 
  1-21  Veterans of Foreign Wars and the National Association for 
  1-22  the Advancement of Colored People; and 
  1-23  WHEREAS, he served on the Executive Board of Hampton Roads 
  1-24  Democratic Party, the Virginia State Board of Corrections 
  1-25  Education Committee, City of Hampton Charter Review 
  1-26  Commission, City of Hampton Citizens' Unity Commission, 
  1-27  Committee for the Beautification of the City of Hampton, and 
  1-28  the Board of Hampton Roads Boys and Girls Club. 
  1-30  members of this body congratulate William A. Tucker on the 
  1-31  wonderful occasion of his 70th birthday and convey to him 
  1-32  their sincerest best wishes. 
  1-33  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is 
  1-34  authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of 
  1-35  this resolution to Mr. William A. Tucker.
