                             A RESOLUTION 
  1- 1  Commending the congregation of the First Baptist Church of 
  1- 2  Springfield on its 150th anniversary; and for other 
  1- 3  purposes. 
  1- 4  WHEREAS, the congregation of the First Baptist Church of 
  1- 5  Springfield celebrated its 150th anniversary with a special 
  1- 6  morning worship service on January 18, 1998; and 
  1- 7  WHEREAS, the church was founded in 1848 with only five 
  1- 8  members and was originally named the Springfield Baptist 
  1- 9  Church, and the first church building was used until 1870, 
  1-10  when a new church sanctuary was completed; and 
  1-11  WHEREAS, in subsequent years, the church sanctuary was 
  1-12  replaced with new construction, and in 1949, the sanctuary 
  1-13  was moved and remodeled, and an educational annex was 
  1-14  completed which was replaced by a larger facility in 1962; 
  1-15  and 
  1-16  WHEREAS, the congregation renamed the church the First 
  1-17  Baptist Church of Springfield in 1988 and began plans for a 
  1-18  larger church building which was completed in 1995 on the 
  1-19  site known as Kieffer Hill; and 
  1-20  WHEREAS, this great church has a proud history of providing 
  1-21  spiritual comfort, inspiration, and consolation to 
  1-22  generations of families who have been active members of this 
  1-23  congregation and continues its tradition of Christian 
  1-24  service to the Springfield community. 
  1-26  members of this body congratulate the First Baptist Church 
  1-27  of Springfield on the occasion of its 150th anniversary and 
  1-28  convey their best wishes to the congregation and to Pastor 
  1-29  Jeffrey Rollins. 
  1-30  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is 
  1-31  authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of 
  1-32  this resolution to Pastor Jeffrey Rollins.
