                             A RESOLUTION 
  1- 1  Commending the Georgia Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation 
  1- 2  and designating March 12, 1998, as "Arthritis Awareness 
  1- 3  Day"; and for other purposes. 
  1- 4  WHEREAS, an estimated 40 million Americans of all ages 
  1- 5  suffer from the pain and disabling effects of arthritis; and 
  1- 6  WHEREAS, in the State of Georgia, more than 1 million people 
  1- 7  are afflicted with arthritis, a term covering more than 100 
  1- 8  specific rheumatic diseases; and 
  1- 9  WHEREAS, arthritis is our nation's number one chronic 
  1-10  illness, and the Georgia Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation 
  1-11  is dedicated to finding a cure to end the painful and 
  1-12  debilitating effects of arthritis; and 
  1-13  WHEREAS, during 1998, the Arthritis Foundation, whose 
  1-14  national headquarters is located in Atlanta, in observance 
  1-15  of its fiftieth anniversary, is sponsoring a public 
  1-16  awareness campaign to highlight the research and treatment 
  1-17  of arthritis; and 
  1-18  WHEREAS, the Georgia Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation 
  1-19  will kick off its arthritis awareness activities on March 
  1-20  12, 1998, and it is fitting to commend this organization for 
  1-21  its committed efforts over the last 50 years to bring help 
  1-22  and hope to Georgians with arthritis. 
  1-24  members of this body commend the Georgia Chapter of the 
  1-25  Arthritis Foundation for its tireless dedication to research 
  1-26  and treatment of arthritis and designate March 12, 1998, as 
  1-27  "Arthritis Awareness Day." 
  1-28  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is 
  1-29  authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of 
  1-30  this resolution to the executive director of the Georgia 
  1-31  Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation.
