1- 1 Commending Harry Chapman; and for other purposes.
1- 2 WHEREAS, Harry Chapman is host of "Talk of the Town,"
1- 3 weekend anchor of "NewsChannel Five This Morning," and
1- 4 Entertainment Editor for NewsChannel 5 WTVF-TV in Nashville,
1- 5 Tennessee; and
1- 6 WHEREAS, Harry Chapman began his career in broadcasting at
1- 7 age 15 when he became an after school and weekend disc
1- 8 jockey for a radio station in his hometown of Hartwell,
1- 9 Georgia; and
1-10 WHEREAS, he graduated from the University of Georgia with a
1-11 Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism and, after working as
1-12 a staff announcer for WSB radio in Atlanta, Harry moved to
1-13 Nashville where he joined the ranks of NewsChannel 5
1-14 television; and
1-15 WHEREAS, he, along with Oprah Winfrey, formed Nashville's
1-16 first male-female anchor team; and
1-17 WHEREAS, he is active in civic and church affairs in
1-18 Nashville, having served as president of the Rotary Club of
1-19 Nashville and deacon at First Baptist Church, and he is a
1-20 graduate of Leadership Music; and
1-21 WHEREAS, he and his wife, Angela, have three children, and
1-22 Angela has loaned a helping hand on many nights when Harry
1-23 was on location covering a music event and needed
1-24 assistance; and
1-25 WHEREAS, it is only fitting and proper that this expert in
1-26 the music industry be honored in his native state.
1-27 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the
1-28 members of this body commend Harry Chapman for his many
1-29 accomplishments and contributions to the music industry and
1-30 his community.
1-31 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is
1-32 authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of
1-33 this resolution to Harry Chapman.
