                             A RESOLUTION 
  1- 1  Creating the Senate Study Committee on Cosmetology 
  1- 2  Curriculum; and for other purposes. 
  1- 3  WHEREAS, the cosmetology profession is regulated by the 
  1- 4  State of Georgia; and 
  1- 5  WHEREAS, cosmetology schools are regulated by the Georgia 
  1- 6  Board of Cosmetology; and 
  1- 7  WHEREAS, the Georgia Board of Cosmetology has the 
  1- 8  responsibility for determining cosmetology school 
  1- 9  curriculum; and 
  1-10  WHEREAS, cosmetology schools are responsible for the proper 
  1-11  education and training of cosmetology students; and 
  1-12  WHEREAS, cosmetology school curriculum should ensure that 
  1-13  cosmetology students receive appropriate training to perform 
  1-14  the cosmetology profession; and 
  1-15  WHEREAS, the educational requirements for cosmetologists 
  1-16  need legislative review to determine if students receive 
  1-17  appropriate training. 
  1-19  created the Senate Study Committee on Cosmetology Curriculum 
  1-20  to be composed of five members of the Senate to be appointed 
  1-21  by the President of the Senate.  The President of the Senate 
  1-22  shall designate a member of the committee as chairperson of 
  1-23  the committee.  The chairperson shall call all meetings of 
  1-24  the committee. 
  1-25  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the committee shall undertake a 
  1-26  study of the conditions, needs, issues, and problems 
  1-27  mentioned above or related thereto and recommend any actions 
  1-28  or legislation which the committee deems necessary or 
  1-29  appropriate.  The committee may conduct such meetings at 
  1-30  such places and at such times as it may deem necessary or 
  1-31  convenient to enable it to exercise fully and effectively 
  1-32  its powers, perform its duties, and accomplish the 
  1-33  objectives and purposes of this resolution.  The members of 
  1-34  the committee shall receive the allowances authorized for 
  1-35  legislative members of interim legislative committees but 
  2- 1  shall receive the same for not more than ten days unless 
  2- 2  additional days are authorized.  The funds necessary to 
  2- 3  carry out the provisions of this resolution shall come from 
  2- 4  the funds appropriated to the Senate.  In the event the 
  2- 5  committee makes a report of its findings and 
  2- 6  recommendations, with suggestions for proposed legislation, 
  2- 7  if any, such report shall be made on or before December 1, 
  2- 8  1997.  The committee shall stand abolished on December 1, 
  2- 9  1997.
