                             A RESOLUTION 
 
  1- 1  Recognizing the week of March 15-21, 1998, as Blacksmith 
  1- 2  Week in Georgia; and for other purposes. 
 
  1- 3  WHEREAS, the Artist Blacksmith Association of North America 
  1- 4  was founded at Westville Village in Lumpkin, Georgia, on 
  1- 5  March 17, 1974, as an educational, nonprofit organization to 
  1- 6  foster the craft of blacksmithing; and 
 
  1- 7  WHEREAS, this outstanding organization has over 50 chapters 
  1- 8  throughout the United States, Canada, Australia, and New 
  1- 9  Zealand and is now the largest blacksmith organization in 
  1-10  the world; and 
 
  1-11  WHEREAS, throughout history, the blacksmith has played a 
  1-12  vital role in the development and manufacture of thousands 
  1-13  of tools and other items which are both esthetically 
  1-14  pleasing and necessary for everyday life; and 
 
  1-15  WHEREAS, the blacksmith's artistry and commitment to quality 
  1-16  in every item produced created the tools, nails, axles, 
  1-17  anchors, and machinery which shaped this great nation and 
  1-18  provided the backbone upon which today's commerce is based; 
  1-19  and 
 
  1-20  WHEREAS, the art and craft of the blacksmith would be lost 
  1-21  due to technology if it were not for the dedication, talent, 
  1-22  and experience of the few remaining true blacksmiths and 
  1-23  their determination to pass their knowledge on to future 
  1-24  generations; and 
 
  1-25  WHEREAS, the Artist Blacksmith Association of North America 
  1-26  will cohost a conference on March 20-22, 1998, in Columbus, 
  1-27  Georgia, which will include a one-day visit to Westville to 
  1-28  rededicate the blacksmith shop on the association's 
  1-29  twenty-fifth anniversary. 
 
  1-30  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 
  1-31  REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and 
  1-32  shall observe the week of March 15-21, 1998, as Blacksmith 
  1-33  Week in Georgia. 
 
  1-34  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of 
  1-35  Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
