                             A RESOLUTION 
  1- 1  Commending Shirley C. Reams, Principal of Terry Mill 
  1- 2  Elementary School; and for other purposes. 
  1- 3  WHEREAS, the 1997-98 school year marks a decade of 
  1- 4  distinguished leadership by Shirley C. Reams as the 
  1- 5  Principal of Terry Mill Elementary School; and 
  1- 6  WHEREAS, Shirley C. Reams is appreciated and admired by 
  1- 7  students, parents, and faculty at Terry Mill Elementary 
  1- 8  School for her dedication and initiative in educating the 
  1- 9  children in this south DeKalb County school; and 
  1-10  WHEREAS, Ms. Reams has been a trailblazer in developing and 
  1-11  implementing new and effective educational programs for her 
  1-12  students, including The Silent Teacher Sign Program, where 
  1-13  motivational messages are displayed throughout the school 
  1-14  building, the Yearlong African-American History Program, and 
  1-15  the nationally acclaimed Girls to Women and Boys to Men 
  1-16  network mentoring programs; and 
  1-17  WHEREAS, Shirley C. Reams' hard work and creativity over the 
  1-18  past ten years have brought wide acclaim to Terry Mill 
  1-19  Elementary School, including its designation as a DeKalb 
  1-20  School of Excellence, a Georgia Red Ribbon School, and a 
  1-21  National Drug-Free School; and 
  1-22  WHEREAS, under her leadership, Terry Mill Elementary School 
  1-23  recently won a Pay for Performance award from the State 
  1-24  Board of Education for the school's exemplary performance in 
  1-25  student achievement and overall school improvement; and 
  1-26  WHEREAS, given these outstanding achievements in educating 
  1-27  the children of Terry Mill Elementary School, it is no 
  1-28  surprise that Ms. Reams has been named Educator of the Year 
  1-29  by the DeKalb Rotary Club and Area Principal of the Year by 
  1-30  the DeKalb County School System; in addition, Shirley C. 
  1-31  Reams has earned the Women Who Make a Difference Award from 
  1-32  the DeKalb YMCA and the DeKalb Administrators' Spotlight 
  1-33  Award. 
  1-35  REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize the 
  1-36  exceptional achievements of Shirley C. Reams and commend her 
  2- 1  for bringing the highest quality of education to Terry Mill 
  2- 2  Elementary School, the DeKalb County School System, and the 
  2- 3  State of Georgia. 
  2- 4  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of 
  2- 5  Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an 
  2- 6  appropriate copy of this resolution to Shirley C Reams.
