                             A RESOLUTION 
 
  1- 1  Bidding a fond farewell to the Honorable Roy Barnes as he 
  1- 2  embarks on a new venture; and for other purposes. 
 
  1- 3  WHEREAS, Roy Barnes was elected to the Senate in 1974 at the 
  1- 4  age of 26, one of the youngest persons ever elected to the 
  1- 5  Georgia Senate; and 
 
  1- 6  WHEREAS, he provided valuable leadership in the Senate for 
  1- 7  16 years, serving as an outstanding Chairperson of the 
  1- 8  Judiciary Committee and an effective and efficient floor 
  1- 9  leader for Governor Joe Frank Harris; and 
 
  1-10  WHEREAS, in 1992, he was elected to the House of 
  1-11  Representatives, and he has served with distinction in the 
  1-12  House of Representatives as the esteemed Vice Chairperson of 
  1-13  the Judiciary Committee; and 
 
  1-14  WHEREAS, he has been an inspiration to members in both 
  1-15  chambers, lending valued assistance in perfecting proposed 
  1-16  legislation for members on both sides of the aisle and 
  1-17  earning great respect for his keen intelligence and insight; 
  1-18  and 
 
  1-19  WHEREAS, he is leaving the House of Representatives to seek 
  1-20  an executive office, and the members of the Georgia General 
  1-21  Assembly can appreciate that his outstanding service in the 
  1-22  legislature has prepared him for any public duty for the 
  1-23  people of Georgia; and 
 
  1-24  WHEREAS, he and his wife Marie have raised a fine family of 
  1-25  three children; and 
 
  1-26  WHEREAS, his sparkling wit and skill as a tactician will be 
  1-27  sorely missed by his many friends. 
 
  1-28  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 
  1-29  REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body regard the 
  1-30  Honorable Roy Barnes with great respect and affection and 
  1-31  extend hearty wishes for his success in future endeavors. 
 
  1-32  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of 
  1-33  Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an 
  1-34  appropriate copy of this resolution to the Honorable Roy 
  1-35  Barnes.
