                             A RESOLUTION 
 
  1- 1  Commending United States Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Eileen 
  1- 2  M. Collins; and for other purposes. 
 
  1- 3  WHEREAS, United States Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Eileen 
  1- 4  M. Collins has attained the significant and unique honor of 
  1- 5  being named the first female space shuttle commander in the 
  1- 6  history of the United States space program; and 
 
  1- 7  WHEREAS, this renowned aviator is a native of Elmira, New 
  1- 8  York, who earned her undergraduate degree from Syracuse 
  1- 9  University and her master's degree from Stanford University; 
  1-10  and 
 
  1-11  WHEREAS, she completed her Undergraduate Pilot Training at 
  1-12  Vance Air Force Base and became a T-38 instructor pilot and 
  1-13  C-141 aircraft commander and instructor pilot; and 
 
  1-14  WHEREAS, she became a professor of mathematics at the United 
  1-15  States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, then 
  1-16  continued her training by graduating from the United States 
  1-17  Air Force Test Pilot School, and was the first woman to be 
  1-18  named as a space shuttle pilot; and 
 
  1-19  WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the 
  1-20  outstanding accomplishments and extraordinary sacrifices, 
  1-21  valor, and courage of this distinguished servant of our 
  1-22  country be recognized appropriately. 
 
  1-23  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 
  1-24  REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body take great 
  1-25  pride in commending United States Air Force Lieutenant 
  1-26  Colonel Eileen M. Collins for her selfless heroism and 
  1-27  unparalleled valor in the service of her country and 
  1-28  congratulate her upon her remarkable achievement of being 
  1-29  named first female space shuttle commander in the history of 
  1-30  space flight. 
 
  1-31  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of 
  1-32  Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an 
  1-33  appropriate copy of this resolution to United States Air 
  1-34  Force Lieutenant Colonel Eileen M. Collins.
