                             A RESOLUTION 
  1- 1  Commending Burnell Brown; and for other purposes. 
  1- 2  WHEREAS, born in Watkinsville, Oconee County, on February 2, 
  1- 3  1914, Burnell Brown, a lifelong resident, has devoted his 
  1- 4  life to the people of his hometown; and 
  1- 5  WHEREAS, Burnell worked for the Oconee County Board of 
  1- 6  Education for over 30 years, served as scoutmaster of Troop 
  1- 7  #96 for 29 years, presided as chairman of the Deacons 
  1- 8  Ministry for 39 years, and is currently a member of the 
  1- 9  Oconee County Chamber of Commerce, vice president of the 
  1-10  NAACP of Oconee County, and Sunday School superintendent of 
  1-11  the Bethel Baptist Church, among many other things; and 
  1-12  WHEREAS, in the 1950s research conducted by the University 
  1-13  of Georgia identified Burnell as one of the top ten leaders 
  1-14  in Oconee County, and his leadership continues; and 
  1-15  WHEREAS, Burnell is simply a tireless community servant. He, 
  1-16  by word and deed, serves as a role model to young people, 
  1-17  often helping children and young adults find their way out 
  1-18  of trouble and into productive, fulfilling lives; and 
  1-19  WHEREAS, while many would turn their backs on troubled teens 
  1-20  or older people in need, Burnell is there on the front lines 
  1-21  of life, making the living easier and happier for all who 
  1-22  know him; and 
  1-23  WHEREAS, Burnell has a sense of appreciation, respect, and 
  1-24  concern for his fellow man and by his warmth and generosity 
  1-25  of spirit, he spreads those feelings to others; and 
  1-26  WHEREAS, a town legend in his own time, Deacon Burnell Brown 
  1-27  is a rarity, and it is people like him who make the 
  1-28  communities of Georgia special and wonderful places to live, 
  1-29  filled with humanity, integrity, and caring. 
  1-31  REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend 
  1-32  Burnell Brown for his many accomplishments and acts of 
  1-33  caring and leadership and thank him for his innumerable 
  1-34  contributions to the people, young and old, of the community 
  1-35  of Watkinsville and of this great State of Georgia. 
  2- 1  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of 
  2- 2  Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an 
  2- 3  appropriate copy of this resolution to Burnell Brown.
