                             A RESOLUTION 
 
  1- 1  Designating the Reverend Joseph Edward Grizzle Bridge; and 
  1- 2  for other purposes. 
 
  1- 3  WHEREAS, the Reverend Joseph Edward Grizzle was born in 
  1- 4  Lumpkin County on August 25, 1894, the son of William 
  1- 5  Soloman (Billy) Grizzle and Sarah Jones Grizzle; and 
 
  1- 6  WHEREAS, after completing seven years of schooling in 
  1- 7  Lumpkin County's one room schoolhouse, he worked in various 
  1- 8  jobs before attending Chattahoochee High School in Clermont; 
  1- 9  and 
 
  1-10  WHEREAS, after graduation, he returned to Lumpkin County to 
  1-11  begin teaching; and 
 
  1-12  WHEREAS, he farmed and attended North Georgia College in the 
  1-13  summers, became a cum laude graduate of the college, and 
  1-14  then continued his teaching career for 42 years; and 
 
  1-15  WHEREAS, during 56 years in the ministry, he was pastor of 
  1-16  16 churches, preaching his first sermon at Yahoola Baptist 
  1-17  Church; and 
 
  1-18  WHEREAS, Reverend Grizzle and his late wife, Bertha, were 
  1-19  devoted to one another during the 77 years of their 
  1-20  marriage, and they were the parents of three outstanding 
  1-21  children; and 
 
  1-22  WHEREAS, throughout his life he has been a friend and leader 
  1-23  to all who have had the pleasure of knowing him, and he is 
  1-24  an inspiration to the citizens of Lumpkin County and the 
  1-25  State of Georgia. 
 
  1-26  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF 
  1-27  GEORGIA that the members of this body recognize and commend 
  1-28  the Reverend Joseph Edward Grizzle for his many 
  1-29  contributions to the citizens of Lumpkin County and the 
  1-30  State of Georgia and designate the bridge on S.R. 60, S.R. 
  1-31  9, and U.S. 19 at Yahoola Creek in Lumpkin County as the 
  1-32  Reverend Joseph Edward Grizzle Bridge. 
 
  1-33  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation 
  1-34  is authorized and directed to place and maintain appropriate 
  1-35  signs designating the Reverend Joseph Edward Grizzle Bridge.

  2- 1  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of 
  2- 2  Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an 
  2- 3  appropriate copy of this resolution to Reverend Joseph
