                        A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 
                               AN ACT 
 
 
  1- 1  To amend an Act creating a board of commissioners of Cook 
  1- 2  County, approved August 12, 1919 (Ga. L. 1919, p. 627), as 
  1- 3  amended, so as to change the compensation of the chairperson 
  1- 4  and members of the board of commissioners; to provide an 
  1- 5  effective date; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other 
  1- 6  purposes. 
 
  1- 7       BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA: 
 
  1- 8                           SECTION 1. 
 
  1- 9  An Act creating a board of commissioners of Cook County, 
  1-10  approved August 12, 1919 (Ga. L. 1919, p. 627), as amended, 
  1-11  is amended by striking paragraph (1) of subsection (a) of 
  1-12  Section 17 in its entirety and inserting in lieu thereof a 
  1-13  new paragraph (1) to read as follows: 
 
  1-14      "(1) The chairperson of the board of commissioners shall 
  1-15      receive a salary of $600.00 per month; and each other 
  1-16      member of the board shall receive a salary of $500.00 
  1-17      per month.  Each member of the board, including the 
  1-18      chairperson, shall also be paid actual expenses incurred 
  1-19      by him or her in carrying on county business while 
  1-20      outside Cook County.  The expenses outside the county 
  1-21      shall be paid only when authorized by the whole board 
  1-22      and submitted as an itemized statement to the clerk of 
  1-23      the board.  Said salary and expenses shall be paid from 
  1-24      the funds of the county each month." 
 
  1-25                           SECTION 2. 
 
  1-26  This Act shall become effective on January 1, 1998. 
 
  1-27                           SECTION 3. 
 
  1-28  All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are 
  1-29  repealed.
