                        A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 
                               AN ACT 
 
 
  1- 1  To amend Code Section 40-5-25 of the Official Code of 
  1- 2  Georgia Annotated, relating to applications and fees for 
  1- 3  motor vehicle drivers' licenses, so as to provide for 
  1- 4  payment of license fees by cash or check; to repeal 
  1- 5  conflicting laws; and for other purposes. 
 
  1- 6       BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA: 
 
  1- 7                           SECTION 1. 
 
  1- 8  Code Section 40-5-25 of the Official Code of Georgia 
  1- 9  Annotated, relating to applications and fees for motor 
  1-10  vehicle drivers' licenses, is amended by striking subsection 
  1-11  (a) thereof and inserting in its place the following: 
 
  1-12    "(a) Every application for an instruction permit or for a 
  1-13    driver's license shall be made upon a form furnished by 
  1-14    the department. Every application shall be accompanied by 
  1-15    the proper license fee paid in cash or, at the option of 
  1-16    the applicant, by valid check drawn on an account of the 
  1-17    applicant.  The fees shall be as established by the 
  1-18    Department of Public Safety, not to exceed: 
 
  1-19      (1) For instruction permits for Classes A, B, 
  1-20      C, and M drivers' licenses.......................$ 10.00 
 
  1-21      (2) For Classes C and M drivers' licenses........  15.00 
 
  1-22      (3) For Classes A and B drivers' licenses........  15.00 
 
  1-23      (4) For application for Classes A, B, C, and M 
  1-24      commercial drivers' licenses or a Class P 
  1-25      commercial driver's instruction permit...........  35.00 
 
  1-26      (5) For Class P commercial drivers' instruction 
  1-27      permits for Classes A, B, C, and M commercial 
  1-28      drivers' licenses................................  10.00 
 
  1-29      (6) For Classes A, B, C, and M commercial 
  1-30      drivers' licenses, initial issuance requiring a 
  1-31      road test........................................  65.00

  2- 1      (7) For Classes A, B, C, and M commercial 
  2- 2      drivers' licenses, initial issuance not 
  2- 3      requiring a road test............................  15.00 
 
  2- 4      (8) For renewal of Classes A, B, C, and M 
  2- 5      commercial drivers' licenses.....................  15.00 
 
  2- 6      (9) Initial issuance of Classes A, B, C, and M 
  2- 7      commercial drivers' licenses and Class P 
  2- 8      commercial drivers' instruction permits shall 
  2- 9      include all endorsement fees within the license 
  2-10      fee.  Each endorsement added after initial 
  2-11      licensing........................................   5.00 
 
  2-12    Except as provided in Code Section 40-5-36, relating to 
  2-13    veterans' licenses, and Code Section 40-5-149, relating to 
  2-14    application fees for public school bus drivers, there 
  2-15    shall be no exceptions to the fee requirements for a 
  2-16    commercial driver's license or a commercial driver's 
  2-17    license permit.  Notwithstanding any other provision of 
  2-18    this Code section, there shall be no fee whatsoever for 
  2-19    replacement of any driver's license solely due to a change 
  2-20    of the licensee's name or address, provided that such 
  2-21    replacement license shall be valid only for the remaining 
  2-22    period of such original license; and provided, further, 
  2-23    that only one such free replacement license may be 
  2-24    obtained within any four-year period for which the license 
  2-25    was originally issued." 
 
  2-26                           SECTION 2. 
 
  2-27  All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
