                        A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 
                               AN ACT 
 
 
  1- 1  To amend Code Section 20-2-1183 of the Official Code of 
  1- 2  Georgia Annotated, relating to the prohibition of pocket 
  1- 3  pagers or electronic communication devices in school, so as 
  1- 4  to permit the carrying of such devices with written 
  1- 5  permission of a parent; to repeal conflicting laws; and for 
  1- 6  other purposes. 
 
  1- 7       BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA: 
 
  1- 8                           SECTION 1. 
 
  1- 9  Code Section 20-2-1183 of the Official Code of Georgia 
  1-10  Annotated, relating to the prohibition of pocket pagers or 
  1-11  electronic communication devices in school, is amended by 
  1-12  striking subsection (a) and inserting in its place a new 
  1-13  subsection (a) to read as follows: 
 
  1-14    "(a) No area, county, or independent board of education 
  1-15    shall permit any pupil to carry a pocket pager or 
  1-16    electronic communication device in school except for 
  1-17    health or other unusual reasons approved by the board of 
  1-18    education or with the notarized written permission of a 
  1-19    parent or guardian of the pupil on file with the board of 
  1-20    education." 
 
  1-21                           SECTION 2. 
 
  1-22  All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
