                        A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 
                               AN ACT 
 
 
  1- 1  To amend Code Section 5-6-48 of the Official Code of Georgia 
  1- 2  Annotated, relating to grounds for dismissal of appeal, 
  1- 3  amendments, correcting or supplementing record or 
  1- 4  transcript, effect of dismissal upon cross appeal, and 
  1- 5  effect of deficiencies upon consideration of appeal, so as 
  1- 6  to provide that no appeal shall be dismissed nor any brief 
  1- 7  or document stricken or refused filing for failure to use a 
  1- 8  particular font size or type in the brief or document; to 
  1- 9  provide for other sanctions; to provide an effective date; 
  1-10  to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes. 
 
  1-11       BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA: 
 
  1-12                           SECTION 1. 
 
  1-13  Code Section 5-6-48 of the Official Code of Georgia 
  1-14  Annotated, relating to grounds for dismissal of appeal, 
  1-15  amendments, correcting or supplementing record or 
  1-16  transcript, effect of dismissal upon cross appeal, and 
  1-17  effect of deficiencies upon consideration of appeal, is 
  1-18  amended by adding a new subsection (g) to read as follows: 
 
  1-19    "(g) No appeal shall be dismissed nor shall any brief or 
  1-20    other document filed in the appellate court by a party be 
  1-21    stricken nor shall any brief or other document attempted 
  1-22    to be filed in the appellate court by a party be refused 
  1-23    filing for failure to use any particular font size or type 
  1-24    in the document filed or attempted to be filed in the 
  1-25    appellate court, but the appellate court may impose other 
  1-26    sanctions for noncompliance with a rule or order regarding 
  1-27    the same." 
 
  1-28                           SECTION 2. 
 
  1-29  This Act shall become effective upon its approval by the 
  1-30  Governor or upon its becoming law without such approval. 
 
  1-31                           SECTION 3. 
 
  1-32  All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are 
  1-33  repealed.
